Rasta – the Comic

By projectethiopia

This is some depressed guy!

A man they call Rasta lives in the between the Canebière and the Port d’Aix, where the going gets rough. The story takes place in the bas fond of Marseille, which already Manchette used as background for his novels ten years before.

Rasta is surrounded by prostitutes and junkies, men without scruples and violence, he feels trapped by his pounding consciousness and malaise. He goes to jail when he is caught by the police as he holds a dying friend in his arms. After jail, Rasta is thrown back into the city, even if he tries to escape. I’m not sure, but it could be that he ends up doing heroine. Not sure, he sells fries in a small wagon, deals, and is vaguely in love with Fathia.

Rasta – ucciani/ mouchenik, 1983.
